Five Giant Elephants

We are missing the zoo these days! Luckily we went right before everything shut down so the memories are still nice and fresh. Giants of the Savanna is by far our favorite area! Elephants and giraffes?! Yes, please!

Watch the flannel board song here.

This elephant rhyme has quickly become a household favorite! We do the song on flannel board and as a lapsit. The kids LOVE to sit on my lap and sway left, right and back, and I love that they’re reinforcing their directional knowledge. At the end of the song, the kids help me knock the elephants off the board when they go “KABOOM!”

I’ve been using left and right with my almost 5 year old since he was 2 and he still gets them confused. Any time you find yourself giving generic directions to your child, like “over there” or “this way,” try to catch yourself and be more specific. “To the right,” or “at the bottom left.” Reinforcement is key!

If you don’t have flannel or felt at home, you can buy a set from my Etsy shop or make the broom and elephants out of contruction paper or print some elephant coloring sheets and have your child color them and cut them out. You can use magnets on a magnetic board or poster tack on cardboard or the wall!

I hope your kids enjoy this rhyme as much as mine!
