Picture Books About Ponds

We have been thoroughly enjoying our focus on ponds this month. We found these great picture books about pond life at our local library and might have to buy a few to keep in our permanent collection! We have been including some pond vocabulary into our sight word sentences since we see so many of the same words come up in each book: pond, water, frog, fish, turtle, duck, etc. These books kept the attention of both my 5yo and 2yo, too!

Foo the Flying Frog of Washtub Pond by Belle Yang is a delightful tale of Foo the Frog who thinks he’s the biggest animal in the world until he floats away one day and gains some perspective.

Pond Circle by Betsy Franco is a cumulative tale of pond life and the food chain. It reminded me of Jump, Frog, Jump by Robert Kalan which is one of my all time favorite books from childhood.

Pond Babies by Cathryn Falwell and In the Small, Small Pond by Denise Fleming worked great with my 2yo. Both have a simple text and beautiful pictures of baby and adult pond animals!
